The Browns QB's
What a difference a year makes, especially when looking at the Browns quarterback situation. At this point last year the Browns had Charlie Frye and Derek Anderson battling it out for the starting quarterback job, with rookie Brady Quinn waiting in the wings. There were not many who would have classified the quarterback area as a strength of the team.
One year later the Browns have a pro bowl quarterback in Derek Anderson and a very promising backup in 2nd year quarterback Brady Quinn. The Browns now are considered one of the strongest teams in the NFL with there skill and depth at quarterback.
Why did it happen? First off the drafting of left tackle Joe Thomas and the free agent signing of Eric Steinbach solidified the offensive line. The offensive line went from a below average unit to one of the top 5-8 lines in the league.
The next big factor were the skilled players, I am talking WR Braylon Edwards, TE Kellen Winslow, RB Jamal Lewis, and WR Joe Jurevicious. Lewis running the ball allowed the offense to be multi dimensional. The Browns were not forced to be a strictly drop back passing team. Edwards,Winslow, and Jurevicious gave Anderson the targets any qb would have confidence in.
Offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and his offense focused on the strength of Anderson and allowed him to do what he does best, and that is throwing the ball down the field.
Finally Anderson just stepped up and grabbed the job, with a Pro Bowl performance. There were bumps in the road along the way, but for a first time starter it was an incredible season.
Now the Nay sayers are talking that Anderson can't duplicate last season....I on the other hand look for an even better year this season as he cuts down on the Int's and increases his completion percentage. The Browns have even more weapons this year, so those that doubt will be proven wrong!!!
