Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson blasts Browns fans

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Former Browns quarterback Derek Anderson, released by the Browns on Tuesday, won't likely be welcome in these parts.

Anderson, who's carried a grudge against Browns fans for more than a year, let it rip Tuesday in an email response to the News-Herald, which sought reaction to his unceremonious contract termination. Anderson did not respond to several requests for comment from The Plain Dealer.

"The fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner," Anderson wrote to the paper. "I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured. I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and (we) roll them."

Anderson was referring to that fateful game against the Colts on Nov. 30, 2008, when he was on the ground writhing in pain from a torn knee ligament while fans at Cleveland Browns Stadium cheered. Anderson, who had gone 10-5 as a starter in 2007, could never overcome playing in place of Brady Quinn, and never got over the fans' snub.

He also felt shut off from the Browns during this off-season of uncertainty.

"I never heard from anyone until today," Anderson wrote in his e-mail. "Nobody ever tried to reach out to me, which is fine."

Anderson's release came one day after the Browns traded a late-round pick in 2011 for former Seattle backup Seneca Wallace. Anderson is expected to draw interest from several teams, including the Cardinals. He was due a $2 million roster bonus Mar. 19, one that he knew he'd never see.

The day after the last game, when players were cleaning out their lockers, Anderson declined to talk to reporters. "I've got nothing good,'' he said.

I commend DA for speaking his mind.
Sack $60, 1 finger point at draft to yonicnoah, Irishman 2 cases, sweeping Paddio in 3 sets of tennis...PRICELESS!

PENDING: 1 case of beer: # of TD's Mathew Stafford throws this season: Irishman 25 or more vs Bling 24 for fewer.

Exactly, he didn't say anything wrong.
"But still, I know I have bitterly disappointed all of you. I have made you question who I am and how I could have done the things I did. I am embarrassed that I have put you in this position. For all that I have done, I am so sorry."--agube

He has apologized for his comments, but I don't think he really meant it. Saying Browns fans don't deserve a winner is ridiculous. They are among the most dedicated, die hard fans in the league. You will always have a few idiots in every fan base who cheer when players get injured. Bottom line, DA was a whiner and a bum and he left town the same way.

I found his quote, "I know at times I wasn't great," to be hilarious. Early leader for understatement of the century.

Wasn't it you Browns fans that were backing this guy two years ago after his "one year wonder" season? Its amazing how fast things change. I wonder if he was referring more to the ownership not deserving a winner more than the fans. I agree, the Browns fans are among the most loyal in sports.

He for sure called out the fans saying they were ruthless and didn't deserve a winner.

Yeah, I was in D.A.'s corner big time after '07, but when he started completing 40% of his passes, throwing 5 INTs for every TD and generally being a turd, I turned on him as I imagine most fan bases would.

I agree. Most of us jump ship as fast as we board it sometimes.
